Why the Issue Matters: Slavery is still a pressing issue. Whether it is explicitly legal like in Mauritania or hidden like in London, the main issue with it is that most people believe it is a practice that does not exist anymore, whereas it is still widely spread and even a growing practice in some places.

Description: Frontline Defenders protects Human Rights Defenders at risk, who work non-violently for any or all of the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Why the Issue Matters: Human rights are under political attack, at a broader level than ever before. The universal nature of human rights are increasingly challenged, democratic values are under threat, even in previously liberal societies. Within these contexts, HRDs continue to be discredited and attacked, with appreciation for them plummeting among previously supportive governments.

Description: Environmental charity that aims at finding innovative ways to tackle conservation and wildlife issues connecting local communities, the scientific community and decision makers. They do both advocacy and field work, working on many projects tackling specific issues, through innovative and concrete solutions

Why the Issue Matters: Many consider that modern progress has led us on the brink of a 6th mass extinction with studies finding that the global insect population could go extinct in less than100 years. Yet, no efforts to protect wildlife population will be effective without taking human and societal needs into account. IFAW uses innovative ideas to find mutually beneficial solutions.

Description: The ICRC's main principle is to uphold humanitarian international law, by protecting the rights of people during armed conflicts. This organization works by following the Geneva convention 1949 and making sure that civilians are effectively protected from armed conflict. The ICRC has a mission in many countries, particularly in Africa and Asia.
